Mentoring Program
From Sepia
The Mentoring Program is a way for the Sepia chronicle to help create a realistic networking system of characters. In addition it allows more experienced players, who are more involved with the chronicle, to bring newer players into established storylines. The system rules are below but there are a few non-system things we would like to emphasize. While there are mechanical benefits to taking a mentor please realize that the emphasis is on the storytelling associated with it. If you and your mentor decide on an antagonisitc storyline then go for it, however this is a collaborative effort and there are players who may not be interested in signing off on your character only to have it backstab them. Before there are comments about the "realism" of their characters actions please remember that this is still a game.
[edit] Mentoring Terms
Players:
Mentor/Student
Werewolf:
Elder/Ward
Vampire:
Sire|Elder/Childe|Protege
Mage:
Master/Apprentice
[edit] Rules:
You must be Status 2 before you may take a student.
You must be lower Status then your Mentor.
The Student in the relationship gains an additional 5 XP to spend on anything (that you have access to due to your Status) that you and your Mentor agree on. Yes that is correctly written, your Mentor must agree to the expenditures.
Your Mentor puts both their name (Player name and Character Name) and Player ID # on your character sheet. This acts as an additional level of approval on your character. Mentors if you are reading this (as you should be) DO NOT sign off on a character sheet until you read it. If you sire a crazy man who wields axes to attack other players, that's sort of on you. Double check first.
In addition to the 5 additional xp, as a Student you gain the ability to chose your Mentors Character Type (in Vampire same clan, same changing breed in werewolf, same tradition or organization in Mage) this allows for a violation of the Status rules. However you must still pay the Reputation cost of the Status level if it violates the Rarity cap for your city. In the Vampire Genre it adds the additional rule that you may purchase Generation down to one level above your Mentor IF they are taken as a Sire and not an Elder.
The Elder option for Masquerade is set up so that you may take someone from another clan to represent a mentor like program. The Toreador who takes an artistic young Malkavian as her Student is an Elder/Protege relationship.
